LYON CONFIRM KRANJCAR INTEREST
Lyon coach Gerard Houllier has confirmed his interest in 21-year-old Croatia international midfielder Niko Kranjcar.

Kranjcar, the son of Croatia national team coach Zlatko Kranjcar and a player with Hajduk Split, had been due to meet Lyon directors on Thursday but the meeting was cancelled.

"I noticed him when he was playing with Croatia's younger teams," said Houllier.

"I watch him closely and I also have friends that know his father.

"We know that Kranjcar is a very technical player whose game is comparable to that of (Eric) Cantona.

"I am also aware that there is a clause in his contract which allows him to leave Hajduk Split in 2006 for three million euros.

"Considering the talent and the age of this player why wouldn't I be interested?"

Kranjcar, who earlier this week revealed he had been given permission to talk to Lyon, has scored seven goals in 17 matches this season with the Croat champions.

Lyon are chasing a fifth consecutive French title after losing only once in 20 matches. They lead the table by 12 points and are also in the last 16 of the Champions League.

When does he get a chance to start?
